• With a month and a half to go before its celebration, there are already more than 200 confirmed teams in the oldest rally in Spain, which will take place from 16th to 18th March in Girona.
  • Among the great names of the event stands out the participation of Miki Biasion (Lancia Rally 037 “Totip”), two-time world champion and two-time winner of the Costa Brava in the eighties.
  • The sponsorship of Motul, the promotion of the #MotorDona program and an itinerary made up of the most iconic stages in the country, key elements of a benchmark event for historic European motorsport.

Nobody wants to miss it. With a month and a half still to go before the 71 Rally Motul Costa Brava gets underway, the participation of more than 200 teams has already been confirmed. This figure is already a record that leaves behind the 181 registrations achieved in the 2022 edition and suggests that an unprecedented entry list will be reached.

All of this reaffirms the position of the Rally Motul Costa Brava as a benchmark event in historic European motorsport. The event organized by RallyClassics will be held from 16th to 18th March with its epicentre in Girona, and will start the season of the FIA European Historic Rally Championship and the Spanish Historic Rally Championships. In addition, it will score for the Catalan Championships and will also include the Legend category for vehicles of special interest.

Miki Biasion, 40 years later

Over the years, the fame of the Rally Costa Brava was consolidated by the fact that it was the first major event on the European calendar. This meant that all the contenders for the title had it highlighted in the agendas. This was the case of Miki Biasion, who debuted with Lancia in the 1983 Costa Brava and in a rally outside of Italy.

On some of the sections that he will drive again in the 71 Rally Motul Costa Brava, also at the wheel of an 037 with the colors of “Totip”, the future two-time world champion began the path to the top of international rallies. Biasion will be the most popular name of this edition, but not the only one. In addition to most of the main drivers from historic rallies, Jacques Alméras will also be in Girona with one of his legendary Porsches.

Another European champion and winner of the Costa Brava, Tony Fassina, will drive a Lancia Stratos. In fact, the entry list in the 71 Rally Motul Costa Brava will not only be massive in quantity, but also remarkable in quality.

There will be various Stratos and 037 in Girona, accompanied by many more iconic machines, such as Audi Quattro S1 E2, Ford Escort RS1800 and Sierra RS Cosworth, Ferrari 308 GTB Michelotto, Fiat 124 Abarth Rally and BMW M3. An evocative journey through the history of rallying.

The 71 Rally Motul Costa Brava itinerary will feature a 687.4 km route, 177.4 km against the clock divided into 13 sections (12 for Regularity and Legend vehicles) throughout the most iconic stages in the country.

Motul and #MotorDona, key elements of the event

Another of the great attractions of the rally for the spectators will be the service park, located in Fornells de la Selva. There they will be able to visit the team facilities and the village, with places to eat and enjoy the atmosphere of the Rally Motul Costa Brava.

Motul is the main sponsor of the rally for the second consecutive year, and with initiatives like this it will continue to value its link with the world of classic motorsports and racing.

2023 also marks the second year of the #MotorDona program promoted by RallyClassics in collaboration with institutions and companies, which began precisely at the Rally Motul Costa Brava in 2022. The goal of the program is to promote the participation of women in all areas of classic motorsport: drivers, co-drivers and the rest of the areas of the organization of the event and the teams (mechanics, engineers, doctors, race management…).

Surely the 71 Rally Motul Costa Brava will also break records in the involvement of women in motorsports.
